one time your green energy
was so vibrant it sang straight to
heaven in a summery heat
then, as chill settled in your bones,
you gracefully
blushed, embarrassed by this new
weakness in your spine,
until a capricious wind,
sudden,
one grey November day,
gave you the push to let go, and you did
oh so gently making your way
to a shallow grave
on the wet pavement, reflecting back
to your roots.

Wonderful verse, like the wordplay you chose to use. Even if thanksgiving is long past, hope it was a good one!
What a slightly sad story yet beautifully written. Poetryman http://apoetryman.blogspot.com/
The season nicely symbolizes first the life and then the cool passing – slipping away in the clouds and the grey light of the year. Well done.
I love the voice in this piece–clear–a little dark–great imagery!
Jody…you've got some fantastic imagery within this write. Love the “on wet pavement, reflecting back/to your roots. Brilliant finish!
wow evocative piece…i think we all have those weaknesses and they do eventually catch up to us…if our roots are not set…
overwhelmed here – thank you all for your kind words!!!
Some how I felt that there has to be a guilt some where, with the title… looks like its ongoing process of living…
Enjoyed your lines..
